'One in a Million' Nottingham City Homes Apprenticeship Scheme

'One in a Million'

For every million pounds of work Nottingham City Homes (NCH) give to one of their contractor partners, they recruit a trades or administration member of staff of their choice.

The Secure Warm Modern programme is not just about bricks and mortar. It is also bringing much needed jobs in to the city, at a time of great economic uncertainty.

Working with their partner contractors NCH have developed the unique ‘One in a Million' scheme. This will create between 165 and 200 apprenticeships - one for every million pounds we spend on the Secure Warm Modern programme. Apprentices will be recruited by, and work for, one of our contractor partners. More apprentices will be recruited as and when we award new contracts to these partners. A running total showing how many people we have recruited through the scheme will be on this page.

Skills that the apprentices will be employed to learn include plastering, bricklaying, joinery, plumbing and gas engineering, window fitting, electrical training and surveying. Administration trainees are also being recruited.

For each apprentice the training contract will be for two years with apprentices expecting to qualify with a level two NVQ at the end of this time. Depending on the overall conduct of the apprentice there is also an option for a third year to support them to gain a level three qualification. Administration apprentices will also work to a level two qualification.
