Performance Management Benchmarking

Implementing 'Lean' in Local Authorities for Members

Location: Pera Conference Centre, Melton Mowbray, LE13 OPB

Event date: 30 Jun 2010

The East Midlands Improvement and Efficiency Partnership (EM IEP) would like to invite Members to this free workshop, providing an opportunity to hear how implementing ‘lean' practices can help improve services and make much-needed efficiency savings.

This half-day workshop is led by the unique combination of Prof. Tony Bendell, an international expert on ‘lean' practices and public sector efficiency, and Simon Speller, Cabinet member and former Mayor of Stevenage.

The ‘lean' approach has been adopted by local authorities across the UK and is having a major impact on services, bringing down costs and speeding up processes. The potential for improved use of resources, staff motivation and customer satisfaction it
represents is impressive. In the East Midlands, 'lean' training courses have proven popular with Officers and successful case studies from the region will be discussed in the workshop.

Members will want to understand what the ‘lean' approach is, what it can do, how it is applied, the dangers to watch out for and officer and member roles in its successful implementation. The ‘lean' approach also provides tools for improved scrutiny, value for
money and committee work.

The workshop is funded by EM IEP so that it is free to Members wishing to attend. It commences with lunch and will include both plenary and discussion sessions. The group size will be limited to a maximum of 25 delegates.
