This one day event hosted by the Safer Sunderland Partnership will provide councillors and officers with an understanding of the various means at their disposal to resolve local problems, and how the scrutiny function fits in. The event will focus on:

CCfA: what it is, the legal powers and responsibilities and how it links in with other council and councillor functions
Petitions: how the new guidance will alter how authorities deal with petitions and the potential links with CCfA
Scrutiny's links with both these issues: how the scrutiny process can be integrated with CCfA, petitions and councillor ward work to make it more responsive and effective.

The event will be led by Ed Hammond, Centre for Public Scrutiny.
