Successful partnership working between the public and third sector has become crucial in actualising the benefits of community empowerment.
The East Midlands Empowerment Partnership (working with the East Midlands Neighbourhood Resource Centre and the East Midlands
Improvement & Efficiency Partnership) has developed a unique awards programme, the Community Engagement and Cultural Change Awards.
The awards focus on recognising and rewarding outstanding community organisations who have inspired their Local Authority or other public sector body partner towards making a cultural change within their working practices, in order to create a successful and mutually beneficial partnership. As a result of these improved relationships, the ten award winners are making positive changes to facilities and services within their communities.
This highly participative event is aimed at bringing those involved in empowerment and community engagement together from across the East Midlands to learn from these organisations, and create a pathway to replicating this good practice within their own authorities.
The day also seeks to recognise and reward the ten award-winners, and inspire other community organisations to achieve similar success across the region.
What will happen on the day?
The interactive day will focus on carousel-style round table discussions, with each table hosted by one of the ten Community Engagement and Cultural Change Award winners and their local authority/public sector partner.
During these informal, dialogue-focussed sessions, winners will provide a brief overview of their project/organisation including what they did, how they did it, their successes and their learning points. Delegates will then get the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about how they can effect similar change and success within their own working practices.
There will also be a ‘keynote' address from leading policy specialist Rachel Newton, Head of Policy & Research at community empowerment champion Urban Forum, and a formal presentation ceremony at the end of the day where the award winners will receive their certificates and cheques for £3,000. Refreshments will be served morning and afternoon with a buffet lunch in between, providing ample time for networking and informal discussion.
Who should attend?
If you are a local authority or public sector officer or manager, working within the fields of community engagement, development or cohesion in the East Midlands, you will benefit from attending. In addition senior managers from community organisations will also gain valuable insight from the day.
In particular, if you are interested in finding out how to create strongmeaningful partnerships between the public sector and community organisations, and how to effect changes to make this happen, this event will give you the information and inspiration you need to move forward.
BRING A PARTNER - To get the maximum benefit from this event, we highly recommend that public sector delegates invite a key member of a local community organisation with whom they are working in partnership to attend with them. This event will provide an excellent opportunity to learn together and create plans for further successful partnership working.
