Implementing 'Lean' in Local Authorities

Location: Pera, Melton Mowbray LE13 OPB

Event date: 22 Mar 2011

We would like to invite Members and Senior Officers to this free workshop, providing an opportunity to hear how implementing 'lean' practices can help improve services and make much-needed efficiency savings.

This half-day workshop is led by the unique combination of Prof. Tony Bendell, an international expert on ‘lean' practices and public sector efficiency, and Simon Speller, Cabinet member and former Mayor of Stevenage.

The ‘lean' approach has been adopted by local authorities across the UK and is having a major impact on services, bringing down costs and speeding up processes. The potential for improved use of resources, staff motivation and customer satisfaction it
represents is impressive. In the East Midlands, 'lean' training courses have proven popular with Officers and successful case studies from the region will be discussed in the workshop.

Members and Senior Officers will want to understand what the ‘lean' approach is, what it can do, how it is applied, the dangers to watch out for and officer and member roles in its successful implementation. The ‘lean' approach also provides tools for improved
scrutiny, value for money and committee work.

A number of Officers who have completed Services Ltd.'s 10-day ‘Master Lean Belt' programme, involving implementing lean within their services, have also been invited to attend to share their learning experiences with those attending.

A copy of the presentation from day is available to download at the following link:
