This webpage is designed to provide useful information, helpful links and relevant publications to officers working in the Waste Collection sector of Local Government and members with an interest in the area.
It is recognised that partnership working can help achieve efficiencies and service improvements in delivering waste collection and waste disposal service. However, getting partnerships effectively working together can be challenging. As part of the Environmental Services Programme the Waste Management Project was developed in 2 phases and was delivered over 2 years from 2009- 2011.
Phase 1 of the Waste Project, delivered in 2009, concentrated on data collection, with a focus on cashable efficiencies, providing examples of the benefits and drivers of partnership working. A report was written by Northampton University which set out to review current local authority waste collection practice within the East Midlands region to determine the range of techniques available and assess their value, applicability and effectiveness across the region and hence determine good practice. Phase 2 of the Waste Project, delivered in 2010/2011 was developed from feedback provided at a waste conference held on 19th May 2010 and consultation with Waste Managers from across the region. The project has delivered:
